A groundbreaking ceremony for a new technology center was held Thursday at the Prep-Villa downtown Erie campus.
The $12.5 million Salata Technology and Innovation Center is set to go up right next to Cathedral Prep's current home on West 10th Street.
The center is being named for the family of Prep alumnus Jean Salata, a 1984 graduate who donated $5 million dollars to the project.
School leaders say the building will focus on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
The new technology center is part of the expansion of Prep-Villa's downtown Erie campus.
Cathedral Prep and Villa Maria Academy in November 2020 announced they will merge, creating one school that is set to open in the fall of 2022.
