Pedestrian Bridge Gone on West 12 Street
The big job of removing the former Erie Malleable Iron pedestrian bridge over West 12th street is now complete and the bridge is gone.
It's West 12th street as we've never seen it before.
The Erie County Redevelopment Authority made the decision to remove the pedestrian walkway that connected EMI to Erie's Modern Industries. It hadn't been used for years, was unsafe and had been damaged by vandals.
Konzel Construction removed the big supports of the bridge on Friday. The rest of the work was wrapped up today, so traffic is back open on West 12th from Cherry to Liberty.
It's part the redevelopment authority's larger plans to demolish most of the EMI building and make way for new development.
