Gordon's Meat Market Selling More Large Turkeys; Erie Box Featuring Local Food Staples Returns

Thanksgiving is just a week away, and families are getting ready for that big turkey dinner.

After scaled-down celebrations last year, it seems more people are ready to gather again.

The crew at Gordon's Meat Market is getting ready for a shipment of about 200 fresh turkeys.

They said they are selling bigger birds than they did last year.

Owner Kyle Bohrer said in 2020, they sold a lot of smaller turkeys as families kept their gatherings limited.

This year, as more people are vaccinated, it seems extended families are ready to gather around the table.

"It seems people are getting together as families," said Bohrer. "We're selling larger birds. Last year, we sold a lot of smaller birds because people were just gathering with family, so I think extended family and friends are getting together."

Gordon's is also bringing back its popular Erie Box, so you can send Erie food staples to loved ones who live away.

Each one is filled with Staganelli's pepperoni balls and sponge candy, ox roast and Smith's hot dogs. This year, Gordon's is adding Fuhrman's apple cider to its large box.
