The sunny weather and warm temperatures were the perfect backdrop for the Erie tradition of Discover Presque Isle.
The peninsula was filled with new visitors and familiar faces for the annual event.
Jon DeMarco, the Executive Director for the Presque Isle Partnership said, "Presque Isle has some sort of hold on everybody in this community. This weekend it's just all about you know appreciating it and giving back, and without our volunteers and these great organizations like the Rotary Club of Presque Isle this would not be possible."
The weekend activities started early on Saturday morning with yoga on the beach and a pancake breakfast.
"To see people come out and experience the park in new, fun and unique ways, such as the pancake breakfast, sand sculpture competition, live music and bonfire, there's also a wide variety of other programs you can engage in like the archery or there's some kids programs", said DeMarco.
Lisa Graff from the Presque Isle Rotary Club said the turnout has grown from last year to this year. "We have a lot of family and have met some new people. We have regulars that come every year, everybody's happy to be outside, it's a beautiful sunny day. This is a wonderful way to start Discover Presque Isle weekend", said Graff.
After enjoying a pancake breakfast it was all about enjoying Presque Isle. From sand sculpting competitions to learning how to fish with the S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie there was some thing for everyone.
Beach 11 had dozens of teams competing for the best sand sculpture including Brian Maloney making a sculpture of a monarch butterfly. "I just like sculpting, as I'm an artist. I'm trying to work towards making my career to be an artist", said Maloney.
He said he enjoys the creativity, learning from fellow artists around him, and just being on Presque Isle.
Discover Presque Isle activities continue Sunday with another pancake breakfast from 7:30 to noon at the Rotary Pavilion.
