April is Autism Awareness Month, and one internationally known speaker is sharing his knowledge with the Erie community.
William Stillman is an award winning author of 10 autism related books. Named "The Autism Whisperer," his message addresses the dated approach to working with people who have autism as people who are suffering, as opposed to intellectual people.
"Let's be clear about something, autism is a multi-billon dollar industry and it is predicated by a culture of fear," said Stillman. "The most important thing people can do is to simply interact with individuals with the belief of their intellect and presume the intellect when you approach them."
Stillman continues to encourage others to better understand what he calls the exquisite sensitivities of our most valuable, wise and loving "teachers," whom are those with autism.
