The Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua partnered with Wreaths Across America to honor local veterans this weekend.
The Kinzua chapter of the Blue Star Mothers organized a poignant event in collaboration with Wreaths Across America, December 16th at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in Warren, where the community came together in a display of support for our veterans.
Over 500 wreaths were sponsored and donated to the event by the community and local businesses.
The memorial service paid tribute to more than 400 veterans who are interred at Saint Joseph Cemetery and included a prayer service and moment of silence.
“It is about honoring the lives of those who have served," said Bradley Hert, Petty Officer Second Class United States Navy. "I’m glad to see it finally come to Warren. I know we have a lot of veterans in Warren County, so it is fitting to have it here.”
“It is a very near and dear project to not only my heart but everyone one of our blue star mother’s hearts as well," said Skyla Govier, President of Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua. "We all have children that have either served or are currently serving, we have children that are currently deployed and are in harm's way. This is a very moving ceremony, a very moving event for the whole community.”
This is the first time Wreaths Across America has been held in the city of Warren and the Blue Star Mothers are planning to hold the event again next year with the help of the community.
