Veterans, their families and supporters gathered at the Carl Neff American Legion Post in Wesleyville for their birthday and awards dinner.
This night is about saluting and remembering area veterans for their service and sacrifice.
Brigadier General John Pippy, Land Component Commander for the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, was keynote speaker. He is proud to work to see that Pennsylvania's more than 700 thousand veterans and their families get the services that they need, and appreciates what American Legion Posts like this one do.
Last year they raised 190 thousand dollars to give back to the community, especially children and youth.
Post 571 recognized Erie News Now anchor, Mike Ruzzi with an honorary membership for the work he's done for veterans in our community, sharing veterans stories, especially Vietnam veterans, and helping to bring in the the Wall that Heals.
Mike told the gathering, the work he's done over the last four years has been his best assignment ever. Congratulations Mike!
