Local students took to the streets to celebrate Earth Day in Warren, PA.

Students at Jefferson Defrees Family Center celebrated Earth Day and helped the community by participating in a clean-up walk.

Over thirty students from the center put on gloves and tidied up the town.

“As we walked out the door they said, "We are going out to help the earth, so the earth can take care of us," and I thought that was probably the most fitting thing any of them could have told us," stated Jennifer Madigan, Childcare Director for Jefferson Defrees.

For over seven years, teachers at Jefferson Defrees Family Center have organized clean up walks, engaging students with the community and teaching them civic duty.

“We enjoy being a part of our community," Madigan said. "We do not take for granted that we are somewhere that is centrally located and have an opportunity that a lot of centers do not. The community supports us, so we like to support the community as well.”

It’s clear that these students are learning the importance of keeping the earth clean and helping their neighbors.
