The Erie man who pleaded guilty in connection to a fatal shooting at his mother's birthday party is scheduled to learn his fate in court Tuesday.

It happened at the Metroplex on Buffalo Rd. in December 2022.

The gunfire took the life of Erie man Steve Smith.

It was a 40th birthday party for the mother of the man who eventually pled guilty to third-degree murder Shannon Goodwin, 23.

He admitted to firing a gun because he was upset about a fight that had broken out.

The guilty plea allows Goodwin to avoid a possible life sentence, but he could still be looking at more than 60 years behind bars.
