Overall cases of crime are down in the City of Erie.
That's according to Erie Police Chief Dan Spizarny, who released crime statistics today, for 2024.
There were 6 homicides in last year, compared to 14 in 2023.
The amount of people who were shot also dropped from 49 in 2023, to 18 last year.
The city also went four months into the year, without a single shooting.
While most crime numbers were down, the department did see an increase in property crime and thefts.
"We've been very successful in solving our crimes. Holding people responsible, so they are not out there doing it again," said Chief Spizarny. "I think it goes to the community efforts. Unified Erie and all of our partners. It's the officers, having manpower to do it, and the technology."
The department hopes to continue to see a reduction in crime in 2025.
