Erie is rolling out the red carpet for John Oliver and the Erie Moon Mammoths.

Mayor Joe Schember has declared July 19, 2025, as Moon Mammoth Day in honor of Oliver’s visit for the baseball game, according to a Facebook post on the mayor's page. The mayor will also present him with the key to the city.

Schember encouraged Oliver and his team from Last Week Tonight  to explore Erie’s highlights, including Presque Isle State Park, the Erie Maritime Museum, and the Ravine Flyer II roller coaster. He also suggested trying local favorites like Lake Erie perch sandwiches and pepperoni balls.

The quirky, one-day rebrand of the Erie SeaWolves baseball team comes courtesy of comedian John Oliver and his team at Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, who chose the team for a surprise transformation as part of a playful segment on the HBO show.
