Multiple Housing and Neighborhood Development Service (HANDS) projects to create affordable housing are underway in the City of Erie.

Midtown Revitalization is a project underway in the 1300 and 1400 blocks of Parade Street. The project, which was formerly known as Midtown Homes, consists of the renovation of 15 single-family homes, the addition of two new buildings and the renovation of a third building.

The renovations include brand new kitchens, bathrooms, energy-saving features, and air conditioning.

HANDS is also building a complex with six single-family apartments in the 300 block of E. 12th St.

In addition to the construction and renovation of living spaces, the organization is creating green space, parks and seating areas.

Completion of the projects are expected by the end of July.

Lease applications will be available by mid-May. Prospective tenants can pick up applications at the new management office at E. 14th and Parade streets or online at the HANDS Erie website.

HANDS also has immediate available at the Villa Maria Apartments at W. 8th and Plum streets.

Additionally, HANDS has secured two new commercial businesses for the first floor of the Boston Store, including Senior Helpers and Patriot Health. With these additions, the occupancy rate for commercial tenants at the historic Erie landmark will be 100 percent.

HANDS has also completed facade improvements and an elevator replacement inside the Boston Store building.
