A patriotic project is now underway at sewing shops in both North East and Warren. Volunteers are donating their time to make quilts for current and past members of the military.
It's part of the nationwide Quilts for Valor program that began in 2003. So far more than 37,000 quilts have been awarded. And now about a dozen local volunteers are working on the project.
Each patriotic quilt takes about 16 hours to complete. Three are already done. Organizers hope the effort will expand with more volunteers.
The quilts will be awarded to current members of the military or veterans touched by war.
The program is being coordinated by Super Stitch shops. The owner says she got involved because so many of her customers have relatives in the military.
