We are finally making ground on our rainfall deficit! June and July were very dry months for the area. June's rainfall of 2.92 inches left us .97 below average. July didn't help either. While Erie International Airport saw 7.47 inches of rainfall, this was still 3.95 below the monthly average.
Since August started, we have seen a change in luck, or should I say precipitation. So far, we had 4.94 inches of rain, which is 3.21 ABOVE average! Some lawns are even starting to turn green again.
For the year, however, our precipitation remains 10.53 inches above average. This includes rain and snow (liquid equivalent). This was due to our extremely wet Spring. Much of this rain ended up as"runoff".
It looks like a pretty dry week is in store, coming up, however. This is good news for this weekend's Celebrate Erie, but we still have some catching up to do in the rainfall department.
