A big crowd on hand to honor October's officer of the month.

Wednesday morning, District Attorney Jack Daneri recognizes Union City police officer George Barber, as October's Officer of the Month.
He's also a school resource officer with the Union City school district, the school held an assembly to congratulate him.
Barber has been in law enforcement for about 25 years. After being a street cop in the city of Erie for 22 years, Barber says becoming a school resource officer was a change, "I always thought I wouldn't want to do that (school resource officer). And when I got in here, and saw the way the kids could be, and the way you can mold them in certain ways, and direct them I found out how important it is." Said Barber.

"In years past, there was a wall between the younger generation and the police departments. And having somebody like George in the school, he kind so takes that wall down." Said Union City Police Chief, Kevin Jones.

"It's not just being a presence, but being a meaningful presence. That he's actually making a difference in the lives of these students. And the more he can do in here, the less Chief Jones has to do out on the streets in the city in years to come." Said Daneri.
