Smokey Bones Bar and Grill: The Burger Battle 2012.
Eight competitors all vying for a $200 gift card. To win, they had to eat some burgers, really fast.
"I love me a good burger and I eat fast," said competitor Justin Brown.
It was more than just a contest. All the money raised will go to the charity "Homes for Troops."
"Oh it's great anything we can do for our troops especially for all they're doing for us right now it's just a really great thing for us to do as a company," said Smokey Bones kitchen manager Cory Lock.
Round one; The competition was fierce. Half pound burgers. In just a matter of minutes, five guys were done and ready to advance to the next round.
"If you're not first you're last! The first burger is only the first burger, I have two more burgers to go," laughed competitor Edward Laird.
"There was a little bit of heaving but I caught myself," laughed Brown.
On to round two. A bit slower this time. Another plate of half pounders, stacked with all the fixins.
"Lettuce, tomato, onion, garlic mayo, pulled pork, what else did I have on there," said Brown.
"Avocado, brisket, just a traditional hamburger with Swiss cheese," said Laird.
Just the top two made it to the final round. A full pound burger. This was the one that mattered.
"At the very end we send the times in and whoever gets the best time out of all our Smokey Bones restaurants gets $2,500. So yeah it's a great event," said Lock.
The two men plugged away. It was brutal to watch. In fact, too brutal. In the end, neither man could keep it all down.
Smokey Bones decided to give both men a $100 gift card for their efforts.
