We spoke with Randy Graham, Courtyard Winery wine maker about wine recently. Here are some of his tips.
Store and serve wine properly for the best experience
You have chosen that perfect bottle to serve on that special occasion. Now ensure your wine's optimal taste by storing and serving it properly.
Storing for more than a few days should be done in a cool place without direct sunlight. Between 58 and 62 degrees is best, and usually a corner of your basement will provide the right temperature and light control. This holds true for both red and white wines.
You've heard that dry reds should be served at "room temperature". While that's true, the reference is to room temperature in the stone castles of Europe.
The optimal temperature for serving dry reds is the low 60 degree range. White wines (and most sweet wines whether white or red) will be much more flavorful if served chilled - in the 48 to 52 degree range. Just 45 minutes in your refrigerator will make you the wine steward of choice!
