A program that provides free infant car seats to needy families of newborns, got a boost today. Erie Insurance gave a $5,000 grant to Saint Vincent Hospital and the Children's Miracle Network.
Ann Scott of Erie Insurance said, "Erie Insurance is very supportive of safety and auto safety in particular. It is really important to us to make sure that every family that needs a car seat, gets one."
The program gave out 60 infant car seats last year. The grant will mean the program will continue and expand.
One of the newest recipients is Katherine Silvagni. She received 2 of the seats for her newborn daughters Amara and Ashanti, who are still in the neo-natal intensive care unit.
She said, "It is an amazing feeling because there are a lot of things we can't afford on our own. To have them give me the car seats it is amazing. And I am so thankful."
Saint Vincent has been a CMN affiliate for more than 25 years, helping thousands of children.
