As the pilgrims from the Diocese of Erie arrived in Rome, they made their way to two Papal Basilicas in the Eternal City. The first was Santa Maria Maggiore (St. Mary Major), where Pope Francis went to pray the day after his election.
A relic of the holy crib is displayed inside the church.
The second was the Basilica of Saint Peter in Chains, where chains believed to have shackled Saint Peter are held in a glass case.
A famous Michelangelo work, "The Moses", is also housed here.
