Sisters to Compete in Cheer and Dance Worlds
Two McDowell High School students will be competing in the 2014 Cheer and Dance Worlds in Orlando, Florida next week. It's a lot of talent in one family - the girls are sisters.
Gabi Fuller, a sophomore, and sister, Lexi Fuller, a senior, are both off to compete at Disney World from April 25-28. Both sisters have been training since they were just babies.
"It's 24-7, dance and cheer all year round," Lexi said.
The sisters both signed up with Pittsburgh teams. Lexi earned a spot in the hip hop dance team "Pittsburgh Poison," and Gabi is a flyer for a new cheer team called "Aqua" with Rain Athletics.
Gabi has competed in Worlds before, but this 2014 competition is a career highlight for both.
"It's a big mix of feelings. It's nervous but exciting and fun," Gabi said.
"It's a big adrenaline rush, you don't even feel like anyone's there, you're just on stage dancing," Lexi said.
Of course, it's all made for a very proud mom.
"It's like a dream come true for me. I've owned a gym and I've done this all my life, so now to see them both competing at worlds, it's something I've always wanted. It's really excited," said Michele Fuller.
All of the practice and traveling time takes a big toll on time to spend with friends and family, but the sisters wouldn't have it any other way.
"Just seeing that all of your hard work pays off in the end and getting to go to worlds. It's such a huge deal that even if we have to travel all those hours to do it, it's definitely worth it," Lexi said.
And win or not, mom feels the same way.
"The gas, the time - two to three times to Pittsburgh and back. This weekend will make it all worth it," Michele said.
