A national service sorority with a local senior chapter is recognizing African Americans who have made a big impact in our community. They were honored at an event called A Pink Carpet Affair II. It was organized by the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority which is celebrating 36 years of service to the community. The group recognized Eva Tucker for his contributions to education, Tyrone Clark for his entrepreneurship, Gary Horton for work in social justice, Shannon Pulliam for leadership in sports, and Fred Rush with a lifetime achievement award.
Alpha Kappa Alpha has over 900 chapters across the country. Leaders say their goal is to bring light into the darkness by encouraging community service.
