A Venango Township man is homeless, after his home went up in flames.

The fire broke out in a pole-barn house in the 10000 block of Young Road just after 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Six fire departments responded to the scene, to find the home taken over by flames. Crews say one man lives at the home, but was not inside when the fire broke out. His personal belongings, along with thousands of dollars worth of farm equipment, were destroyed in the fire. Water supply to extinguish the fire was a challenge.

"This time of year we have trouble getting access to local farm ponds," said Wattsburg Fire Chief, Marty Hamilton. "So we had to shuttle water from probably about four to five miles away."

The Red Cross is assisting the man with shelter. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
