Cody Mennecke was sitting in his living room with his grandchildren, when he heard the sound of gunfire.

"I heard like 9-10 shots, and this silver SUV came out of this driveway or alleyway here, and sped down the road,” said Mennecke.  “You’re afraid for your life in your own home.  I'm afraid a bullet is going to come through my front window. "

According to police, the attempted shooting happened in an alley off of East 10th and Wayne streets around 4:00 p.m. Friday.  No one was shot, but a home was hit by bullets.

Officers collected several shell casings at the scene.  Police also found a silver SUV they say was involved in the shooting near East 9th and Wayne Streets and towed it to police headquarters.

"There are a lot of children in this neighborhood,” said Mennecke.  “What if one of them got hit?  What if one of them got run over by the vehicle?

It’s a disturbing situation for the Mennecke family, who just moved to the area to get away from crime.

"We were living up on East 26th and East Avenue and that was a bad neighborhood with drugs, prostitution, and gun violence,” said Regina Mennecke.  “We move to this neighborhood thinking it would be different.  It's just the same.  So where do you go from there?”

No arrests have been made.
