U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (R-3rd District) said he is considering running for House speaker.

During a phone interview Tuesday, Kelly said if Wisconsin U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan decides not to run for speaker of the House, he will. Kelly said the position was not something he was "actively pursuing," instead the idea came up when other people in Congress suggested his name.

"Pennsylvania's District 3, would benefit from that type of a vision, and that type of a holistic approach to how the government should be run," Kelly explained.
In addition to that, of course, we're more sensitive to things that go on in Western and NWPA. So I could highlight things that I think are gravely important to the people I represent. And also for PA and the country. So I think it's a three-step approach: starts local, goes state, and then goes national."

Ryan could announce his decision, sometime Tuesday night.
