Boy Age 7 Shot in Arm, Millcreek Police Investigate
Millcreek police believe it was an accident, but they are continuing to investigate a shooting incident in a residential neighborhood Saturday afternoon, where the victim is a 7-year-old boy. At about 12:40 p.m. Millcreek police officers and rescuers were dispatched to 2057 Charleston Avenue, off West Grandview Boulevard.
In a news release from police, investigators say it appears that an older sibling shot the 7-year-old in the arm. According to police, the boy was in the back seat of a vehicle with two siblings, in the driveway of a residence, when he took out a handgun from the center console. An older sibling says he was pulling the gun away from the child when it discharged, with a bullet striking the 7-year-old in the upper right arm.
The child underwent emergency surgery at UPMC Hamot, where he is listed in stable condition. Through the course of the investigation officers say they believe the gun was discharged accidentally. The investigation is ongoing.
