The Lakeview Landfill, in Summit Township, will soon enter a new era in its 44-year history.

The huge mound of garbage at the site will hit its height limit next summer.  The mound now stands at 1500 feet above sea level. 30 more feet of trash will be added before it is capped.  Afterward, operations will still continue at the landfill.  Its owner, Waste Management, received permission to build another mound, on ten additional acres, at the site.

"That will give us extended life here at the landfill. We're looking at anywhere from 80 to 100 years of life left at the landfill because we got permitted for that extra space," said Craig Hahlen, Operations Manager.
