The Erie woman, who police say was shot by her husband on New Year's Day, has died.
Coroner Lyell Cook confirms that Ida Bush, 61, died on Wednesday, at Pleasant Ridge Manor.
The incident happened on January 1, inside of the couple's home on Glendale Avenue.
Erie police say that Ida and her husband, 73-year-old Joe Bush, exchanged gunfire inside of their home, following an argument that morning.
Ida Bush was shot in the stomach and taken to UPMC Hamot. Joe Bush was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
Cook has ordered an autopsy to be conducted on Ida to determine her cause of death.
“This is not a normal case by any stretch,” said Cook. “We have to be able to determine once and for all whether the injury or gunshot wound had anything to do with her death, or if it was due to preexisting medical conditions and that sort of thing."
Erie County Forensic Pathologist Dr. Eric Vey is currently on vacation, so the autopsy will be conducted in Cleveland.
Once Cook receives the results, investigators will determine if any additional charges will be filed.
The autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
