The case against the man accused of killing his wife and throwing her body into Lake Erie is one step closer to trial.

48-year-old Christopher Leclair was formally arraigned Tuesday morning in front of Judge John Trucilla.

Leclair is facing several charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated assault, abuse of a corpse and carrying a fire arm without a license. Those charges come with a potential life sentence.

It's in connection to the murder of his 51-year-old wife Karen from this past summer.

It started when he told police she fell off the back of the commercial fishing boat they operated together. But, police say their investigation shows Leclair shot his wife in the head, and dumped her body in the lake.

They say surveillance cameras on the Bayfront show the two heading out on the water together, and Christopher Leclair returning alone. Prosecutors say they have other forensic evidence to make their case.

Leclair's 78-year old father Ernest, is also charged in the case. He's accused of trying to help his son hide the murder weapon.

A date for Christopher Leclair's trial is expected to be set later Tuesday.
