Parties Focus on Different Races for Primary Election
Election Day is Tuesday with different races getting key attention from the two major parties.
Local republicans are focused on the three day race for their party's gubernatorial nomination.
The party endorsed candidate, Scott Wagner, is facing challenges from Paul Mango and Laura Ellsworth.
Democrat Tom Wolf is unopposed.
The big race for democrats is for congress, with three candidates vying for the chance to take on republican Mike Kelly in the fall.
The district now includes all of Erie County.
But the second legislative race, featuring well known candidates, and contested races on both sides, is likely to have the highest turnout in the county.
Erie County Clerk of Elections Doug Smith said, "You are going to see good turnout in that area. That may well save our total turnout with numbers in terms of pushing it higher."
Party leaders and county officials expect the county wide turnout will be somewhere between 20% and 30%.
