Many people have been talking about the $11 billion merger Monday between giants, Wabtec and GE Transportation.

Like GE Transportation, Wabtec is also a western Pennsylvania company, based just outside of Pittsburgh. The company was formed back in 1999 after the merger of the Westinghouse Air Brake Company and Motivepower Industries Corporation.

Wabtec currently manufactures products for locomotives, freight cars and passenger transit vehicles as well as building some new locomotives.

Wabtec is no slouch according to their revenue. Last year alone the company brought in $3.9 billion.

That of course is still behind GE, the leading manufacturer of locomotives who had sales of 4.2 billion in 2017.

Wabtec and GE Executives are expecting the company to become stronger, have a broader mix of rail operations and possibly even become a new fortune 500 corporation.

As for what the merger will be for GE Transportation in Erie, only time will tell.
