A west Erie bar that neighbors call a nuisance will be shut down immediately after a judge granted an emergency preliminary injunction to close the 901 Sports Bar and Grill, formerly known as Ultra View Lounge, late Wednesday afternoon.

The crowd in the courtroom erupted in applause after the ruling was announced.

Neighbor James Anderson said, "This has been a nightmare for us for the lst few years. This is the best thing that could have happened to us."

Ten witnesses, including six  police officers, three  neighbors and State Police Liquor Control and Enforcement officer , testified during the hearing that lasted more than two hours.

The owners of the bar did not show up for Wednesday's hearing.

District Attorney Jack Daneri's filed a motion last week to shut down the bar at W. 4 and Plum St.

Testimony presented by the prosecution said 166 calls were made for the address or within a block since the new owners took over in late 2016. That includes several shootings and a homicide.

Officers also testified about frequent parking and noise complaints made about the bar.
