Blood Shortage Has Pints Leaving Blood Bank As Fast As People Donate
A blood shortage is in effect at the Community Blood Bank in Erie. Erie News Now has learned that all pints of blood are being sent to partner hospitals, as fast as the donors come in.
While all types are needed, types O and A are being called for. Jennifer Brownlee of the Community Blood Bank says the inventory for type B, is also extremely low. Donating blood typically only takes about 45 minutes and the criteria is being a minimum age of 17, at least 110 pounds, feeling healthy and well, and getting no tattoos in the past year.
The blood bank on Peach Street in Erie is open Thursday and Friday from 8am to 5pm and Saturday from 9am to 12:30pm. All donors will receive a t-shirt this week for their time.
A special Sunday donation will be held August 26 from 10am to 2pm.
