Erie Police Dept. Mourns Passing of Local Officer
The City of Erie Police Department is mourning the passing of one of their own. Officer Michael Conway was taken to UPMC after Police called an ambulance to the station for someone in cardiac arrest. Officer Conway died at the hospital late Saturday night.
The department will be flying city flags at half staff this week in honor of Officer Conway. As part of a police tradition, they cleared the police radio airwaves to call Officer Conway's badge number for the last time (recording in video above, courtesy of Broadcastify). They also changed the department's Facebook picture in light of his passing. The logo the department typically displays now has a blue line through it for the fallen officer.
Police Chief Dan Spizarny told Erie News Now that they're going to be focusing on helping officers dealing with Officer Conway's passing and said it's going to be a rough week for the department. Officer Conway was a beloved officer at the station and the Chief said he brightened the mood whenever he came into a room.
