The Erie County Poet Laureate finalist competition was held Monday night in Blasco Library's Hirt Auditorium.

This was the final part of the three part competition.

The three finalists, Dr. Chuck Joy, Luke Kuzmish, and Luchetta Manus, performed their poetry.  Then there was a tabulation of scores for written poetry, community project, and overall performance.

Dr. Chuck Joy came out the winner, and named the 2018-19 Erie County Poet Laureate.

Joy is a Cathedral Prep grad, and got his MD at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

He's also been very active in promoting poetry here in Erie County.  He founded the Poetry Scene at the Erie Book Store in 2005, chaired the Erie Poetry Committee in 2009, and produces Poetry Nights at Calamaris.   He has also published a number of books.
