American Airlines will offer service from Erie to Charlotte and Chicago starting in the spring and discontinue flights to Philadelphia, Erie International Airport announced Wednesday.

Two non-stop flights to Charlotte will leave Erie at approximately 7 a.m. and 1:40 p.m.

The new American Airlines flight to Chicago will leave around 2:55 p.m. United Airlines already provides service from Erie to Chicago.

While the new service does not start until May 3, tickets for the flights go on sale Nov. 5.

Erie International Airport executive director Derek Martin said the airport worked with American Airlines to make the changes.

"There's going to be less possibilities of delays as well as getting people to where they want to get to be on a timely basis," Martin said.
