The City of Erie Fire Department will soon have a new fire truck despite budget woes.

Erie City Council Wednesday approved nearly $743,000 in funding for the purchase of a 2019 rescue pumper for engine company number 6.

The new truck will replace a 1999 model rig.

More than half the money is from a grant Erie received through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.

The truck will be the first new fire engine for the department since 2013.
