Holiday shipping rush hits Erie packing facilities
ERIE, P.A (WICU-WSEE/CW) – We’re just over a week until and Christmas, and local shipping companies are in overdrive.
This is projected to be the busiest week of the year for mailing and shipping.
We stopped by the UPS Store on the corner of Peach and West 38th Street to see first-hand. The family-owned location continuously had a line of three to four customers around 4:30 Monday afternoon
In the back room, a stack of roughly 150 packages was continuing to pile up as customers continued to come and go. We’re told, the stack had grown significantly since their last pick up at 11:00 Monday morning.
Store owners Chris and Christopher Fanzini tell us the stack of packages accumulated over the course of just a few hours.
So while they're working hard to get everything shipped, the stack is only expected to grow.
We try to keep up as much as we can, but it's definitely different than any other day because there's been nonstop costumers coming in, which is great, but it's definitely different." Fanzini said
The deadline to send your holiday gifts so they arrive in time for Christmas is quickly approaching.
First class mail and priority mail need to be sent by Thursday. UPS and FED-EX have a Friday deadline.
And the postal service says packages sent with "priority mail express" need to be mailed by Saturday.
Shipping companies expect a record year, fueled by e-commerce.
