Golfers braved the cold weather Sunday for a unique golfing experience in the annual Joe Root Frostbite Open at Presque Isle State Park.

It's a unique fundraising opportunity and a chance for golfers to bring out their golf clubs in February.

As always, they planned to play on the frozen bay, but due to warm temperatures last week, golfers instead played nine holes on the beach.

The 103 golfers who joined in experienced the beauty of Presque Isle at a time of year many do not.

"Many people just assume Presque Isle is just a spring, summer, fall kind of place but really the landscape down here is so unique in the winter months," said John DeMarco, executive director of the Presque Isle Partnership. "It's really neat to get that perspective in the winter months."

All golfers received a free meal from Joe Roots Grill.
