In what was perhaps the biggest upset of the primary election Erie County voters voiced their desire for change in the third district yesterday, voting out 85-year old Fiore Leone and voting in newcomer Mary Rennie.

After four decades of service on Erie County Council, Leone lost Tuesday night's primary election by 10 percentage points, receiving only 39-percent of the vote. Leone had been a member of Erie County Council since its inception in 1977. Because of county term limit rules enacted in 2013, this would have been Leone's final campaign regardless of the outcome.

Leone has no plans of running as a write-in candidate in the fall. Instead, he tells us he plans to enjoy time with family, once his term is complete.
