"If people ask me which businesses are safe to go into, I would say none," said Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper.

Strong words from the county executive after the discovery of a coronavirus cluster on the same day as the county's biggest single-day jump in cases.

"I kind of lost my breath for a moment this morning when I learned that we had 10 new cases today," Dahlkemper said.

Six workers at an unknown local business were diagnosed with the virus, spreading concern among local leaders.

"There is no store that can guarantee that you will not contract Covid-19 if you go in there," Dahlkemper said. "There is no store that can say their employees will not get it from someone who comes in."

But as the yellow phase begins this weekend, local businesses are reopening, but they're doing so with trepidation.

"They're nervous for themselves," said James Grunke of the Erie Regional Chamber. "They're nervous for the safety of their employees. They're nervous that they can provide the safety to their customers."

So leaders say that although we're in the yellow phase, caution is still key.

No one knows what might happen next.

'Your safest place is to just stay home," Dahlkemper said. "Any time we step out of our door, any one of us could contract covid-19."
