As fall will turn into winter, this is a busy time of year for heating and cooling companies.

It can be a dirty job, but it's a necessary one.

Brian Tinko is the "B" in K & B Mechanical Heating and Cooling.

"You can never know when that phone's gonna ring, and someone's gonna need you and you just have to go," said Kim Tinko.

Kim Tinko is the K of K & B, a business the married couple started in 2020.

After spending years in the HVAC industry.

"My history was office administration, dispatching, billing, accounts receivable," said Kim. "He was an electrician before this trade, and so he has the electrical background and also knowledge of HVAC."

So what's the extent of what they offer customers?

"We do anything from rooftop units, boilers, cooling towers, residential furnaces, condensing units," said Kim.

While K & B services residential customers, their focus is on commercial and industrial. And Logistics Plus was the company's first commercial client.

Anthony Acevedo and Jonas Lyon are the facilities managers of six, Erie-area Logistics Plus Properties.

"Pretty much handle construction, plumbing, electrical," said Anthony.

But they often utilize the help of local businesses like K & B

"For us, it's the little things that mean a lot. When they come and service something, not only do they take care of it, but they teach us how," said Jonas. "Brian will go up and show us what to do, so then in the future we don't necessarily have to call them all the time."

And Brian is now teaching the trade to his first employee.

"All of our service and fitters come out of a 5 year apprenticeship through the Steamfitters," said Brian. "We're a union contractor."

The owners hope to keep the family dynamic around for their son.

"He comes out, shadows and wants to go to tech school and so the next generation is already coming up," said Kim.

And while the company works to fix local HVAC issues in the Erie area, they also travel to Crawford and Warren Counties to help other businesses, there.
