Charities for Children hosted a dinner Thursday to present 15 checks to local charities.

The money raised comes from its 36th annual bowling tournament on Sunday.

Participants managed to raise $45,889, which is the most ever.

All of the money raised go to selected charities chosen by the bowlers after each victory.

"Our tournament opened up to the public on Dec. 1st," said Rick Makowski, president of Charities for Children. "We sold out by December 6th. The bowlers really want to get involved, and that really makes it a lot easier for us to do our work to make sure that we get it done right."

The recipients included:

  • Shriners Hospital for Children
  • Achievement Center
  • Make-a-Wish
  • Boys & Girls Club of Erie
  • Barber National Institute
  • Sarah Reed Children's Center
  • Family Services
  • Sight Center of N.W.P.A
  • Cystic Fibrosis Assn.
  • Nurturing Hearts
  • Children's Miracle Network
  • Child Development Centers
  • Erie Homes for Children
  • Bayfront Maritime Center
  • Crime Victim Center

The date for next year's tournament is set for March 23, 2025.
