Erie County Council on Thursday failed to override the county executive's veto connected to Gannon University's Project NePTWNE.

Council members voted 4-3 during the special meeting, falling short of the required five votes.

The current plan calls for the water research project to use space in the Blasco Public Library. However, opponents say the county should not have leased public library space to a private institution like Gannon.

Council initially approved the lease but later rescinded it. Erie County Executive Brenton Davis then vetoed the move to rescind the deal.
