Before Erie County Council failed to override Erie County Executive Brenton Davis' veto, members of the public spoke for nearly two hours.

We heard from those who were supportive of the project as well as those who were opposed.

While voicing his support for Project NePTWNE, Gannon University alumnus Chuck Pora said it is only going to benefit the entire county.

"I think this project being in the library is going to be a considerable thing for Erie and Erie County, I am very happy with the way it turned out and I appreciate County Council for all the hard work they did on this and everything they had to put up with while listening to all the people," Pora said.

Erie County Public Information Officer Chris Carroll said the Davis administration is pleased with the decision Council reached and also pointed out that the public will continue to be involved with decision-making.

"We are excited to partner with Gannon University, we are going to move this project forward and the public is going to be involved in that process by working with the architects and putting the finishing touches on making this the best investment for Erie County and we look forward to seeing that," Carroll said.

Krista Perry was disappointed with the outcome and said she is not against the project, she is against the location of it.

"I think it is a great project, Gannon University has been a part of my life since I was a little girl, my mother is an alumna so it is not about that, it is about the integrity of the public library so it can grow with the community into the future, it is sacred ground," Perry said.

Right project, wrong location is the same view Erie County Council Chairman Terry Scutella has had and after the vote, he said his focus is on protecting the Blasco Library.

"If somebody comes to lease another piece of the property or 3,000 ft², you have to hope Council votes against it and with five votes because that takes out the veto," Scutella said.
