The Millcreek Township Fire Department revealed a new, used ambulance. Fire Chief Michael Cliff said buying a used ambulance saved money and that residents won't be additionally taxed.

"This new, used ambulance really saved the township several hundreds of thousands of dollars. If we were to go buy a new ambulance today, it’s going to be closer to $300,000 fully equipped. . .The way the billing process is going to work is that if we transport somebody to the hospital, we’re going to bill their insurance company. Millcreek Township has elected not to hard-bill the residents of Millcreek Township. They’re already paying a fire tax,” Cliff said.

Cliff said they're not increasing staff at the moment. The ambulance will be running 24/7 and will use two people from the engine crew. He said this ambulance will enhance what Millcreek Paramedic Service already has.

"We're not trying to take away what Millcreek Paramedic Service is doing right now. We’re looking to become a last out option for them. So in the event that they’re tied up on other calls throughout the township, we're going to be here to be able to help,” Cliff said.

They also rebranded some of their fire engines as paramedic engines.

“These are going to be fully equipped ALS units that we will be able to provide, basically, all care that an ambulance would. We just don’t have that transport capability,” Cliff said.
