"We have two victims here, the user and the seller, my concern is this is Big Pharma at it their worst," said Mary Ann McDanniels-Kulesa

Mary Ann McDanniels-Kulesa is an insulin dependent diabetic and has to take it in the morning and at night.

"I have received this medicine for over four years, I, twice, have had issues with it where when you go to use it and it jams, you cannot move it and you cannot inject it," McDanniels-Kulesa said.

She said she then contacted the manufacturer, a company called Sanofi, who sent her this letter reading in part, "Sanofi wants to inform you that we have limitations as to how many free of charge replacements we provide."

"They replaced 22 pens for me before, this time they told me I have reached my quota of what they would give me. Now, if you have a manufacturing issue and I am your consumer, do you think it is appropriate to tell me, sorry we are a making a lot of bad pens but we are not going to replace them anymore," she asked.

She said that Sanofi sent her box to put the malfunctioning pens in so they can be shipped back to the company but given the email she received that the pens may not be replaced without a cost, she said she then spoke with her physician and is now going to use a different manufacturer.

"I am now going to be using a new insulin that as far as I am aware of has better quality control than this one because there is something really wrong here," she said.

Erie News Now called Sanofi's product replacement number at 4:39 p.m. on Friday afternoon, we did not speak to a representative and were told that the mailbox is full and to please try again later.
