Carolyn Mather was shocked when she heard the news.

"Devastated," she said.

Virgil's Plate has announced that the business has decided to close its doors for good.

The pizza place shared the news via Facebook on Tuesday, April 23.

"Sorry for not posting this sooner but to all our great Customers, Virgil's is Closed permanently. We have enjoyed serving You these past many years and wish You all the Best. Virgil."

On March 29, the business announced a temporary closure.

"He makes a special pizza for me because of my allergies," Mather said. "Other pizza shops don't do that."

It was a local favorite for take-out and delivery items, and Mather says even people from out of town crave it.

"I have a cousin who lives in Florida and one in California who when they come to visit, that's the place they want to eat," she said.

It was a similar reaction from another neighbor, Alyssa Kanonczyk, who lives across the street from the restaurant.

"We were really disheartened to see it because we are a big local business supporter," Kanonczyk said. "The crust on that pizza was phenomenal."

To them, and other residents, it was more than just a restaurant. They say it was also the heart of a tight-knit community.

"They're excellent neighbors. We love having them and we love seeing the traffic on the weekends or for sporting events and people getting the things that they needed," Kanonczyk said. "Very, very disheartened, and they'll be greatly missed."
