President Joe Biden signed a bill into law for war aid for Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan. Biden approved sending $1 billion to Ukraine, the first installment of the $61 billion. Ukrainian parliament member Oleksiy Goncharenko said this money will save lives, and makes an impact here in the U.S.

“This will protect United States soldiers and officers from fighting against Russian barbarians because today, Ukrainian army is ready to stop them, but we need ammunition, we need weapons, and  we just need this support,” Goncharenko said

Goncharenko came to Penn State Behrend for an event speaking with the campus and the community. He said engaging younger audiences in Ukraine and other world events is essential to our future.

"I think it's very important to address these young generation -- these people who soon will run the country, the world, the state,” Goncharenko said

Associate Professor Lena Surzhko Harned of political science at Penn State Behrend said it's timely and important that students hear first hand about international events.

"It's a fortuitous moment that Oleksiy is here right now, as the President Biden signed the aid package that was so long waited and suffered for by Ukrainian people. It sort of reinforces that feeling of support from the United States, and the American people. I felt it was important for the wider community to speak to someone like Oleskiy,” Surzhko Harned said.
