It was a monumental morning for the groundbreaking on Edison Elementary School on East Lake Road.

Construction work will begin soon on the 35.5 million dollar project.

The school currently has 500 students from Pre-K to fifth grade.

School district leaders were on hand for the ceremony.

The school will have 24 classrooms and for the first time have a separate space for their gym and cafeteria.

This is the first new school to be constructed in 26 years in the Erie School District.
