ALBANY, NY (Erie News Now)--PENDING LEGISLATION IN ALBANY COULD CHANGE THE WAY FANTASY SPORTS OPERATE BY ALLOWING NEW TYPES OF FANTASY SPORTS GAMES THAT COULD INCREASE TAX REVENUE FOR THE STATE.

“So much has changed since 2016 since we did fantasy sports. And I think it's really for us legislators to make the product better as the state has evolved, gaming has evolved with mobile sports betting and other platforms,” said Sen. Joseph Addabbo (D-15th Senate District).

IF PASSED, IT'S ESTIMATED THE legislation COULD GENERATE $150 TO $200 MILLION IN TAX REVENUE OVER THE NEXT DECADE.

SEN. ADDABBO SAid ABOUT 95 PERCENT OF GAMING REVENUE EACH YEAR GOES TOWARDS EDUCATION.

ANOTHER WAY THE LEGISLATION TRIES TO ENHANCE FANTASY SPORTS IS THROUGH CONSUMER PROTECTIONS BY REQUIRING AUTHORIZED PLAYERS AND CONTESTANTS TO BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OLD.

FORMER NEW YORK GIANTS WIde receiver AND SUPERBOWL CHAMPION DAVID TYREE SAid ITS IMPORTANT TO MAKE FANTASY SPORTS SAFER.

“There’s so many different ways for fans from fantasy to fantasy sports, and now the gaming experience. I think it's just something that number one we have to acknowledge, we have to acknowledge the younger demographic,” (13 seconds).

AND TYREE ISN’T THE ONLY FORMER PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE WHO SUPPORTS ENHANCING FANTASY SPORTS.

“It’s a great way for our family to come together and it’s very enjoyable. My sons play it a lot, it gets me involved in more of the players, I don’t know, they’re out there playing football, I get to learn them and talk to my kids about it, my mom about it. I just think it's a fantastic thing,” said Tino Martinez, former New York Yankee Player and four-time world series champion.

IF PASSED AND SIGNED BY THE GOVERNOR, THE LEGISLATION WOULD TAKE EFFECT IMMIDIATELY.
